7/18: Union Barrelhouse opens today in Scottsdale

Union Barrelhouse, a “nano-brewery” specializing in craft beer and upscale tavern cuisine, opens today in Old Town Scottsdale.

The brainchild of seasoned restaurateur John Casale and his Scottsdale-based Rise Hospitality Group, the tavern moves in to the former Salty Senorita, another Rise restaurant that moved a block north. The brewery opens its doors at 3 p.m.

Union produces small-batch craft beer, focusing on limited productions of five brews. They include Barrelhouse Golden Ale, Barrelhouse IPA, Barrelhouse Imperial Porter, Barrelhouse Hefeweizen and Barrelhouse Wheat Bock. There will also be a changing array of handcrafted seasonal suds and house blends. Growlers, adult shakes, organic sodas on tap, signature margaritas on tap, beer tastings, beer pairing events and a “Mug Club” round out the drink menu.

For the food, executive chef Brian Feirstein, formerly of Valley eateries including Salty Senorita, Capital Grille and Eddie V’s Edgewater Grille, prepares dishes with beer pairings firmly in mind. Among them are farmer’s market salads, burgers, smothered chicken and waffles, smoky macaroni and cheese, barbecue chicken stack and filet with frites.

Diners can expect a high-energy vibe. Casale specializes in nightclub-style entertainment, and Union Barrelhouse presents live music on a 2,000-square-foot patio with an indoor-outdoor bar.
