Jennifer Adams of Scottsdale is like Dear Abby meets Martha Stewart

Scottsdale resident Jennifer Adams was born to an Oregon farming family so poor that her mother sewed all the clothes, furniture, draperies.

“She made everything,” Adams said.

Today, Adams is the sole owner of a multimillion-dollar bedding and home-accessory company, Jennifer Adams Worldwide Inc.

And starting this fall, her face and products can be seen by more than 2 million people every day.

Adams, 40, who has combined her mother’s talent with business moxie, is on the cover of the SkyMall magazine holiday edition.

“SkyMall magazine goes into the backseat of every single airline both domestically and internationally,” Adams said. “To be on the cover is truly an honor.”

Nearly 2 million people have access to SkyMall daily, according to Adams’ public-relations assistant, Jordan Johnson, and will reach more than 600 million people in 2014.

SkyMall is based in Phoenix.

“We are very excited to work with Jennifer Adams and bring her products to SkyMall customers,” said Theresa McMullan, SkyMall’s vice president of sales and merchandising.

Adams also writes the Ask Jennifer Adams newspaper column and appears regularly on Better Homes Gardens’ “The Better Show” and on the ClearVision Airport News Network.

Adams is like a Dear Abby meets Martha Stewart.

She has her own line of home-decor products, including bedding, fabrics, furniture, scented home accessories, bath accessories, whole-house cleaning products, pet beds and accessories, apparel, area rugs and kitchen textiles.

She also has a book, “Bedrooms That Inspire: Rest, Relaxation Romance.”

Her first claim to fame, she said, was bedding, which she started in 1999. She makes microfiber, “clean, classic and simple” sheets and duvet sets.

“Our fabric is so soft and easy-care,” Adams said.

She backed into the bedding business after spending six years providing interior decorating and do-it-yourself advice on TV.

She attributes her 15-person company’s success today to taking the scary, not easy steps, somewhat reminiscent of Robert Frost’s “The Road Not Taken” poem, which concludes, “Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.”

“I take the scary steps every single day. I do one thing that scares me every day. That brings about the biggest growth for us,” Adams said.

Adams, SkyMall and Hallmark Channel’s “Home Family” are giving away prizes, including a Dream Bedroom Giveaway featuring Jennifer Adams Home products.

“There are thousands of prizes people can win,” Adams said.

Adams products can be purchased at such places as Costco, Kohls.com, Fry’s, Ralph’s, SkyMall, Covington.com, fabric.com and her company’s website, www.jenniferadamshome.com.

Those wishing to enter the contest can do so at www.skymall.com/dreamroom.
