BRKFST restaurant, club opens in Scottsdale

A new breakfast restaurant and nightclub called BRKFST is opening tonight in the old American Junkie spot in downtown Scottsdale.

They’re hosting a free, grand-opening party with headliner Mija, the stage name of EDM DJ Amber Giles, who grew up in Ahwatukee but lives in Los Angeles and has toured with Skrillex. She was on Billboard’s 2015 list of 15 Female DJs You Need to Know Now and will be performing at one of the smaller venues within the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival later this month.

The club will only be open Friday this weekend, as the rest of the staff prepares to debut the restaurant on Monday, which will feature Hawaiian-inspired twists on breakfast and lunch classics. Regular operating hours will be 7 a.m. Monday through Saturday, staying open as a nightclub until 2 a.m. on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, according to manager Paige Lokkesmoe.

American Junkie closed in October, when the main investor pulled out to focus on another project in Tempe, former co-owner Crissty Santana said.

Lokkesmoe said BRKFST is the first endeavor for its new owner, Nicholas Lee of Galaxy Food and Beverage. Lee formerly worked with Relentless Beats, the promoter behind some of the Valley’s biggest EDM events, so he has put an emphasis on music and sound quality, Lokkesmoe said. The club has a PK Sound speaker system, a brand that’s known for its work with EDM acts such as Bassnectar, Calvin Harris, Diplo and Steve Aoki.

Details: 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Friday, April 10. BRKFST, 4363 N. 75th St., Scottsdale. Free. Must be 21 or older. 480-990-1322,
