Scottsdale considers allowing alcohol aboard pedal buses

Scottsdale officials will decide next month whether to allow alcohol on “pedal buses,” which are powered by pedaling riders.

The Scottsdale City Council will discuss at a meeting May 5 whether people will be able to have alcohol while on the group bike.

The pedal buses are primarily used by Tour de Tavern, which take large parties on pub crawls around Old Town Scottsdale.

Tour de Tavern owner Brendan Holve says customers could bring beer or wine in paper or plastic cups. But the company would then install seatbelts and other measures.

One pedal bus holds up to 15 passengers with a company driver doing the steering and breaking.

It only operates on streets with a 25 mph speed limit until 11 p.m.
