PD: Man found dead after Scottsdale barricade situation

SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Police say a situation in which an armed man barricaded himself inside a Scottsdale home is over.

Scottsdale Police Sgt. Ben Hoster said the man was found dead inside the home.

Hoster said the incident began with officers responding to the residence near 70th Street and Dixileta for a domestic violence call at 4:30 p.m.

Police said the man’s son and ex-wife live in the home. Hoster said after the man arrived at the home carrying a long gun he began to argue with his ex-wife in the carport as the woman and 12-year-old boy were leaving.

The woman and boy ran to a neighbor’s home and she told police she heard her ex-husband fire one shot from his gun. Hoster said no one was struck.

Hoster said the male then went into his ex-wife’s home and fired several more rounds.

Hoster said the man tried to set the home on fire but the home’s sprinkler system put it out.

Hoster said officers surrounded the home and SWAT officers were called to the scene.

Fifteen people were evacuated from six nearby homes.

Hoster said at 9:20 p.m. the ex-husband was found inside the home, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Evacuated residents were allowed to return home.

The investigation is ongoing.

Police have not released the man’s name
