Inaugural Scottsdale STEAM conference to encourage girls to pursue careers in …

SCOTTSDALE, AZ – Motivated young girls around the Valley will have the opportunity to build professional and personal skills at Axosoft’s #ItWasNeverADress STEAM conference this weekend.

The conference, which will take place Saturday and Sunday at Axosoft’s Scottsdale location, will inspire girls aged 12 to 17 to pursue opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM).

Guests will have the opportunity to listen to several esteemed speakers, including Mayor Greg Stanton and Miss Phoenix 2015 Kaitlin Vortherms.

The girls will also participate in various workshops led by other community leaders that will build various professional and personal skills, including computer programming, preventing bullying, socially conscious marketing, building confidence and engineering skills.

Girls will leave the conference with the confidence and business plan necessary to help establish STEAM clubs or infuse STEAM programs into pre-existing curriculums at their schools.

They will also be named #ItWasNeverADress ambassadors, and will receive the support of an advisory board that will contact them quarterly to offer guidance and encouragement.

Axosoft intitiated the #ItWasNeverADress campaign in an effort to empower and encourage young girls to channel their strength and potential. It made this effort tangible by encouraging girls to view the icon on women’s restrooms as wearing a cape rather than a dress.
